JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Several community members came out to the Harold Newman Arena Thursday afternoon to celebrate the kickoff of the Red Kettle Campaign.

As the largest fundraiser for the Salvation Army, Major Tim Nauta says there is a major need for volunteers to ring the bell and collect donations.

Major Nauta says before, the Jamestown Salvation Army used to have a paid bellringer. But he says they stopped that because it was counterproductive to the funds the group was trying to raise.

The goal this year has been set at $168,000, which goes on to support the different services the Jamestown Salvation Army provides including food, clothing, utility & rent assistance, temporary shelter and more.

Jamestown Mayor Dwaine Heinrich stated that almost everyone has experienced or seen someone who has needed help from the Jamestown Salvation Army.

Mayor Heinrich says we can all work together to help our community and beyond. If you can volunteer your time at one of six red kettles in Jamestown, you’re encouraged to call 701-252-0290 or visit registertoring.com.
