SIOUX CITY, Iowa (JimmieAthletics.com) – The 24th-ranked University of Jamestown volleyball team ended a 10-game losing streak to Viterbo (Wis.), sweeping the No. 7 V-Hawks in pool play action at the 2018 NAIA Volleyball National Championships presented by Delta Hotels.

HOW IT HAPPENED
*Corina Ruud (SO/Breezy Point, Minn.) and Isabel Wedell (JR/Ellendale, N.D.) each slammed home four kills while Jackie Meiklejohn(FR/Dickey, N.D.) recorded seven assists as Jamestown took the first set 25-18.
*After Viterbo got within two points at 16-14, Jamestown scored the next five to create some breathing room with a 21-14 lead.
*Jamestown hit .195 compared to Viterbo’s .031 in the opening set.
*A balanced offensive attack in set two for Jamestown was key in a 25-12 win. Wedell had three kills in the set while four other players had two kills each.
*UJ hit .423 in the second set with only one error in 26 attempts.
*In set three, Jamestown stayed hot offensively, hitting .400. Wedell had four kills while Jordan Thomas (JR/Pingree, N.D.), Kennedy Conzemius (SR/Breckenridge, Minn.), and Ruud all had two.

FOR UJ
*Wedell had 11 kills and hit .400 for the match. Ruud hit .500 on the strength of eight kills and only two errors in 12 attempts. Conzemius, Thomas, Ellie Michaletz (SO/Aitkin, Minn.), and Britta Knudson(JR/Bismarck, N.D.) all finished with four kills.
*Jackie Meiklejohn set 19 assists and Miranda Lowman (JR/Mandan, N.D.) 13, helping UJ to a .320 hitting percentage for the match.
*Defensively, Anna Holen (FR/LaMoure, N.D.) had seven digs, followed by Meiklejohn and Julina Niemeier (SR/Jamestown, N.D.) with five. Knudson had seven blocks, including three solo.

FOR VITERBO
*Lydia Xu had 11 kils to go along with a .389 hitting percentage. Katie Frohmader had five kills while Miah Garant and Aubrey Aspen added four each.
*Lauryn Sobasky had 13 assists and nine digs, and Chole Jakscht racked up 12 assists.
*Garant finished with three block assists.
*The V-Hawks hit just .080 in the match, with 29 kills and 22 errors in 88 attempts.

UP NEXT
*Jamestown finishes pool play Thursday at 2 p.m. against Saint Xavier (Ill.), and a win would send the Jimmies to the championship bracket for the second straight season. Saint Xavier, now 28-11 on the season, was swept by Southern Oregon earlier Wednesday. Viterbo will face Southern Oregon (28-3) 4 p.m. Thursday.
