TOWER CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Behind a stifling defensive performance, the Tornadoes girls basketball team defeated the Maple Valley Raiders 52-29 Friday night.

The excellent defensive performance started in the first quarter when the Tornadoes held Maple Valley to just five points through the first eight minutes and took a twelve point lead into the second. Maple Valley pulled it within two possessions on a couple different occasions in quarter number two. After Nicole Schmitz got into foul trouble the Tornadoes offense sputtered a bit to close out the first half.

Once the second half began, it was all Tornadoes. Oakes pulled away with ease to win by over twenty points.

Sadie Hansen turned in another solid performance leading the team with 17 points with two 3-pointers made. Through two games, Hansen has scored 30 points to lead all scorers.

After a slow start Lynsey Schmitz finished her night with another double-digit scoring performance as she netted 14 points while hitting a pair of 3-pointers.

Oakes’ next game is this Tuesday night as the Tornadoes travel to Lidgerwood to take on Wyndmere-Lidgerwood (0-1) at 7:30.
