VALLEY CITY N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Barnes County North, Maple Valley, Enderlin and LaMoure/Litchville-Marion were the winners on the second day of The Barnes County Girls’ Basketball Tournament.

(5) Barnes County North 50, (8) Griggs County Central 39

The Bison of Barnes County North pulled away from the Griggs County Central Cougars late in the first semifinal game of the consolation bracket and won 50-39.

Through three quarters, the game was tightly contested and the two teams were separated by only one point. The Bison would double up the Cougars 20-10 in the 4th quarter to pull away for good. Despite winning by 11, the Bison shot just 30 percent from the field and went 0-5 from three point. Their leading scorer was Clara Wieland who finished with 22 points to lead the Bison.

Leading the way for Griggs County Central was Kayla Kenninger with 10 points and Jenna Larson who fell one point shy of a double double.

(3) Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page 38, (7) Maple Valley 40

The Raiders and Spartans got off to a slow start combining for 10 points in the first quarter with little separation between the two teams, but it was FSHP to take a minimal three point lead into half.

Maple Valley turned the tides in the 3rd quarter by outscoring FSHP 17-4 to take a 10 point lead into the 4th. The Spartans made it interesting down the stretch, but Maple Valley hung on to a two point victory to advance to the 5th place game.

Leading the way for the victorious Raiders was Courtney Hovelson with a double double (21 points & 12 rebounds). The leading scorer for the Spartans was Sadie Flaten with 19 points.

Kaylie Schlecht hit the game winning shot with 7 seconds left to end a wild second half and put The Eagles into the BCT title game.

After a low scoring 1st half, MNS trailed 17-13. They’d answered back with a 10-0 run to begin the 3rd quarter and would carry a 30-24 advantage into the 4th. Enderlin outscored The Bulldogs 14-6 and Schlecht’s go ahead basket was the game’s 8 lead change.

Schlect ended the night with a game high 13 points. Hope Lindgren scored 6 points with 8 rebounds.

MNS was led in scoring by Christina Mathias and Victoria Sandness who both had 11 points each.

(2) LaMoure/Litchville-Marion 63 vs. (6) Sargent Central 29 

The Loboes scored 10 straight points to open the game and never looked back. LLM’s Ellie Holen was the top scorer with 14 points, she’d also collect 5 assist and 5 rebounds. Olivia Bliss had a near double double with 10 points and 9 boards.

Brynn Peterson scored 11 points for Sargent Central. Jami Bopp pulled down 12 rebounds with 7 points.

LLM will try to win their 4th straight BCT championship,that would set a new tournament record.
