JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce sub-committee is continuing their hard work on the new Sensory Garden.

The City Beautification Committee is a sub-committee of the chamber and has been putting efforts forward to complete the unique garden for area residents. Chamber Executive Director Emily Bivens says they’ve received a lot of help from others in Jamestown.

Once complete, the garden will be used to stimulate all the senses and will be completely accessible by all.

“The design and layout provide a stimulating journey through the senses and brings a positive learning experience,” the chamber states.

Over the summer, 24 planters were filled with plants that are deigned to stimulate the senses and two paved patio areas were built for five benches. Perennial plants were placed by master gardeners and the construction of a boardwalk that ends with a large sitting area was completed.

Bivens says there is still opportunity for naming rights in the garden.

City Beautification Committee Co-Chair Bob Martin says they appreciated having help from the Valley Building Trades class to build a lot of the new pieces in the garden.

“The class members jumped right in and asked us good questions about our requirements. It’s been a wonderful project to collaborate on with these students,” he stated.

Bivens pointed out that it’s taken a lot of work to put this project together and says the end result will be worth all the work.
