VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The New Year holiday is approaching fast and ON THE MOVE is here to help you feel better and make 2019 your best year! It’s easy to do…just set a physical activity goal and join ON THE MOVE 2019! Daily exercise benefits people of all ages and physical abilities and ON THE MOVE can help you be active and reach your goals in the new year.

ON THE MOVE will start January 1st and run until March 15th and it has more to offer than ever before including classes and incentive gifts, all for only $15! You can sign up at barnesonthemove.org or by calling 845-8518.

“The federal government has just updated recommendations for physical activity for the first time in 10 years,” states Andrea Winter, ON THE MOVE Coordinator at City County Health District, “based on new research, everyone can drastically improve their health and save healthcare dollars just by moving more and sitting less!”

Winter adds, “the updated guidelines emphasize that even very short increments of movement are important. Research shows instant benefits of exercise such as improved sleep, less anxiety, improved blood sugar control and lower risks of heart disease and certain cancers.”

Lack of physical activity is linked to $117 billion in annual health care costs according to a report from the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Interested in classes, new fitness opportunities and incentive gifts? Then pay only $15 for a single membership or $45 for a family membership. Paid members will receive the incentive gifts and have unlimited access to all the Try-It sessions and classes. There will also be free nutrition education classes offered by Sue Milender Toppen, NDSU Extension as well as a cooking class series that will be offered for a small fee at the Wellness Center, pre-registration required.

“Everyone is welcome to join ON THE MOVE! You can become a free ON THE MOVE member by simply writing down your physical activity goal, sharing it with us and joining the community spirit!” states Sharon Buhr, ON THE MOVE Chair at City County Health District, “We will send you information to help you stay motivated.”

ON THE MOVE is in its 21st year and would like to thank everyone who has joined throughout the years and welcome new members. The program is funded through a grant by the ND Department of Health and all of our 19 partner organizations.
