JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Fire Department prevailed over the Jamestown Police Department in the 4th Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive.

The 3-day drive encouraged volunteers to donate blood and vote for their team, either Team Fire or Team Law. Vitalant Representative Weldon Roberts says the need for blood donations is high and the need continues to be great. He says they need 250 volunteers to donate blood daily to meet the needs of the region.

Roberts says out of 70% of those who can donate in the United States, only around 10% of them do. He says fun competitions like the Battle of the Badges gets people in the spirit to volunteer.

Roberts reports that at the end of the competition, Team Fire prevailed with 109 total votes to Team Law’s 96 votes, making it a total of 205 volunteers who donated blood during the drive.

Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger says in their line of work, they see the constant need for blood donations. He says this makes the Battle of the Badges that much more important.
