VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – In a split vote, the Valley City Commission approved of moving forward to pursue a Request for Proposal (RFP) concerning the construction engineering contract for Streetscape I. The proposed street reconstruction project will run along Central Avenue from Main Street to 12th Street North.

On a 3 to 2 vote, the city commission gave the city administrator the authority to approve KLJ’s proposal to perform engineering duties for Streetscape I and to recoup 80 percent of the costs associated with construction engineering though the North Dakota Department of Transportation estimated at $140,000.

City Administrator David Schelkoph told the city commission that KLJ engineering was the only firm to submit a bid for this project.

City commissioners Mike Bishop and Jeff Erickson voted against the motion during a regular meeting on January 3.

Schelkoph said with the spring construction bidding process just around the corner we needed to move to secure this request with the NDDOT. He said once a contractor is selected construction will begin after the June Rally in the Valley event.
