Arlene was born January 24, 1935 to Henry and Hattie Greb, the fifth of six children. Arlene attended elementary school in rural Cuba town ship, graduating from VCHS in 1953. Immediately following high school, Arlene began working for NW Bell as a Telephone Operator.

Arlene married Eugene Johnson on February 6, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City, ND. They built a home on the eastern edge of Valley City, where she lived until 2003.  They were blessed with 5 children, including 4 sons and one daughter.

Arlene continued to work for NW Bell for 18 years while raising her family.  She then began working at CJ’s Flower Shop, which later became Dakota Rose Floral, and worked there for 25 years before retiring in 2000.

In 2003, Arlene then moved to Bismarck, ND, to be near her son Mark and his family. Arlene made many new friends through her sister, Joyce, and participating in the Red Hat Society, but her favorite moments were spent with her youngest grandchildren, the triplets, attending all of their programs, games, etc., and building memories just as she did with her grandchildren in Valley City.

Arlene’s hobbies included gardening, canning, reading, scrapbooking, cards and camping. She loved visiting with family and friends, sharing memories and a laugh.

Arlene was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, along with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bismarck. She was also a member of the Eagles and Amvets Auxiiary.

Arlene is survived by her children, Randy and Edie Johnson, Lynn Johnson, Kerry and Jennifer Johnson, all of Valley City, and Mark and Nicolette Johnson of Bismarck, her sister Joyce Holden of Bismarck, one sister-in-law Viola Pack of Ft.
