27 year-old Kevin Hoff was charged with Class AA felony murder after he shot Nicole Gututala three times while she sat in her car in the parking lot outside her apartment on May 12th, 2018. The incident came after Hoff received court documents that he had lost his appeal of a court order giving Gututala sole custody of their two children. He was also served with a foreclosure notice on his home.

Hoff showed no emotion during the proceedings and did not speak on his behalf. In November, Hoff had plead guilty to murder.
