VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — A man accused of trying to hire someone to kill his wife and one of his employees has been sentenced 12 years in prison by a Southeast District Court judge.
Alexander Lail was earlier found guilty of two counts of attempted murder. Prosecutors say the 50-year-old New Rockford man took steps to arrange the murder of his wife, Donna Lail, and Tyler Schnase, who worked at Central Plains Restoration, a business owned by Lail.
Authorities say Donna Lail and Schnase were providing law enforcement with information regarding possession of stolen property and use of methamphetamine.
The state maintained that Lail had offered $30,000 to several people for killing his wife, including specific instructions on how to carry it out and burn down Donna Lail’s home. Prosecutor say Lail had a similar plan to kill Schnase.
