Fort Totten, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The District 7 girls basketball tournament is under way and all of the top seeds advanced in the opening round. New Rockford-Sheyenne (NRS), the number 4 seed, opened the tournament with a 68-51 victory over the Dakota Prairie (DP) Knights, the number five seed. Number two seed Harvey-Wells County (HWC) defeated the seventh seeded Warwick 46-35. Benson County, the number 3 seed cruised by the sixth seeded Lakota Raiders 44-28.

Hannah Haley poured in a game high 23 points, 8 assists, and 7 steals to help pace the Rocket victory. Haley also grabbed a team high 9 rebounds. Dani Bjerke added 20 points for the Rockets and Allison Dockter added 13 points and 8 rebounds. DP opened the game on a 14-0 run but couldn’t hold as the Rocket pressure defense forced the Knights into 26 turnovers. Carly Lippert had a team high 15 points and hauled in 10 rebounds. Paige Haakenson and Shaye Frederick also added 9 points for the Knights. Erika McPherson grabbed a game high 12 rebounds. The Rockets improved to 9-11 overall and will face top seeded and 9th ranked Four Winds-Minnewaukan (first round bye) in the semifinals. DP dropped to 7-12 overall and will get a bye in the next round. The Knights will play at 5:30 on Monday in a Region 4 qualifying game.

McKayla Jones had a game high 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Hornets to a 46-35 victory over the Warwick Warriors. Jay Fike added 10 points and 8 rebounds. Hannah Fassett had a team high 10 points for Warwick. Kalista Jackson and Madi Leaf both scored 8 points and Leaf grabbed 10 rebounds. Shalynn Demarrias had a team high 10 rebounds for the Warriors. HWC improved to 14-6 overall and Warwick dropped to 5-15.
Tournament coverage of HWC, DP, NRS games will be aired on Thunder Country 98.3 FM and newsdakota.com Saturday games start at 4:00 P.M. with Warwick taking on Lakota in a loser out game. Both semifinals games are on the air and will have FWM versus NRS at 5:30 and HWC versus Benson County at 7:00 P.M
