DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Several livestock were killed after a semi tractor trailer rolled near Devils Lake Monday afternoon.
A 2013 Kenworth towing a livestock trailer driven by Garrett Hoopman of Dunseith was traveling east on US Highway 2 roughly 3 miles west of Devils Lake.
A truck tractor passed Hoopman, leaving him in a cloud of snow fog. Hoopman was unable to see the roadway and ran off the road into the snow filled median. The semi hit an embankment in the median, causing the livestock trailer to overturn onto its right side.
The trailer contained 83 head of cattle destined for Devils Lake sale barn. A total of 16 cattle were killed in the crash. The Highway Patrol says the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. He denied medical attention.
The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association assisted at the scene.
