JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valentine’s Day is Thursday, February 14th. That will also be the day of one of the largest fundraisers in North Dakota.
Giving Hearts Day has been a signature fundraising campaign for North Dakota and Northwestern Minnesota nonprofits for the past 12 years. According to the event’s website, $13.1 million were given by 28,000 people during the event in 2018. The website also says that Giving Heart’s Day is the longest running event of its kind.
Casie Hardin is the Community Outreach Coordinator for Alpha Opportunities and says it is their largest fundraiser that they rely on.

James Valley Youth for Christ also relies heavily on the funding brought in during Giving Hearts Day. Nick Bruns is on the JVYC board and says they joined Giving Hearts Day last year.

JRMC Foundation Director Lisa Jackson says because of Giving Hearts Day, they’ve been able to realize a lot of big plans at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Several other area organizations are benefiting from the 24 hour donation event. They include:
American Heart Association
Anne Carlsen Center
Guardian Angels Inc.
The Arts Center
Jamestown Gymnastics Club
St. John’s Academy
Service Dogs for America
The Salvation Army
University of Jamestown
Freedom Resource Center
Each donation to one of the organizations involved is doubled and matched up to a set dollar amount. Donations can be made today and scheduled for Giving Hearts Day at givingheartsday.org.
Over the event’s 12-year history, over $55 million have been given to area nonprofits. Giving Heart’s Day is sponsored by the Dakota Medical Foundation, Impact Institute, and the Alex Stern Family Foundation.
