MINOT, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown scored two goals in the first 3:06 of the game to set the tone on the way to a 6-1 win over Bottineau/Rugby in the elimination game at the West Region Tournament  Friday afternoon in Minot.
Alex Stockert scored his fifth goal of the season 26 seconds into the game. Braxton Jorrison stole a clearing attempt and scored his first varsity goal on a wrister from the high slot 2:40 later to give the Jays a 2-0 lead.
Joe Cummings gave Jamestown a 3-0 with a shorthanded goal at the 7:24 mark of the second period. It was Cummings’ fifth of the season.
Ian Amsbaugh would cut the lead back to two with a shorthanded goal himself less than two minutes later. It was his 29th of the season which is fourth in the state.
But Jace Thompson would score 24 seconds later on a power play goal to give Jamestown the three goal lead back. It was the fourth of the tournament for Thompson and 17th on the year.
Thompson and Tommy Falk would score 2:24 apart early in the third period give the Jays the 6-1 lead and Riley Gerhardt made it stand up with 22 of his 44 saves coming in the third period.
Thompson would add two assists to his stat sheet.He has five goals and two helpers in the tournament Corey Nelson also had two assists for the Jays who improve to 8-13-1 overall and will play either Minot and Bismarck Century in a state qualifying game Saturday at 1:15pm.
