Fargo, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington wrestling team will send one wrestler to the championship matches on Saturday. Senior Lucas Geiszler defeated Brock Roesler of Kindred by a major decision 20-7 to advance to the 138 pound championship match. Geiszler, the number 2 seed, improved to 46-7 on the year and will face top seeded Riley Zachmeier (49-2) of Rugby. The Cards are in sixth place overall as a team with 68.5 points. Lisbon is leading after the second day with 130 points, and New Salem-Almont (NSA) is just 1 point behind with 129 team points. Central Cass (87 points), South Border (82 points), and Bowman Bounty (73 points) round out the top five.
Carrington had 3 other semifinalists, including 113 pounder Treston Lura who lost a 4-2 OT match to top seeded Caleb Nielsen of Lisbon. Lura recorded a takedown to take a 2-1 lead with about 40  seconds remaining. With a warning for stalling issued earlier in the match Lura was called for a second stalling call as time expired and gave Nielsen a point to tie the match at 2-2. In sudden victory overtime Nielsen scored a takedown and won 4-2.
Brecken Lura (126) and Tate Hoggarth (152) both lost by pin in their semifinal matches. Hoggarth (6 seed), lost to Josh Irwin (2 seed) from NSA at 3:31 of the second period. Brecken lost to number 1 seed Kyle Burwick (53-0) from Hettinger-Scranton at 1:02 of the first period.
Earlier in  the day, Kael Kovar (120) was eliminated from the tournament after  a 5-0 loss to Christian Lagunes of Williams County. Matthew Duchscherer (106), Beau Retzlaff (182), and Colton Buskness (195) all picked up wins in the second round of wrestle backs and all can still place as high as third place. These 3 have all guaranteed at least an 8th place finish. The 3 semifinalist ho lost are guaranteed at least a 6th place finish and can still finish as high as 3rd place. Action will start at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday and all Cardinal matches will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK (THE CARDINAL), FM 100.1, and newsdakota.com
