JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A rural Jamestown woman has been named Agricultural Woman of the Year by the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce Ag & Energy Committee.
Julie Michel is co-owner, office manager and President of Michel Farms, Inc. After the death of her husband Jeff, she was determined to continue the farm operation. With the help of her sons, Cody and Kale, Julie does not need to make the big decisions by herself. Julie has been responsible for grain marketing, crop insurance, financials, and all other tasks related to the farm.
Her daughter Amanda came back to the farm in 2015, and they opened Boondocks Venue together in 2016. She is currently Office Manager of Boondocks and hopes to someday take over the role of Office Manager for the farm as well. She is married to Zach Rode.
Julie is being recognized at the Farmer’s Appreciation Festival on Friday night. The event is being hosted by the chamber’s Agriculture and Energy Committee sponsored by Country Garden’s Floral & Greenhouse.
Julie hopes to mentor others in agriculture, while still helping in the field.
