JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Representative Craig Headland has been charged with Reckless Driving after reaching a plea agreement in Southeast District Court.
The charge was changed from a Driving Under the Influence after Judge Troy LeFevre issued an order accepting the agreement on February 14th. Headland, 58, was charged on October 7th when he was arrested for driving under the influence on I-94. Headland was a candidate for re-election in District 29 at that time. He has held his elected position since 2002.
Under the charge, Headland has been ordered to pay a $500 fine, $100 facility fee, $125 court administration fee, $25 victim witness fee, and $25 community service fee. He must also perform 40 hours community service, serve one day in Stutsman County Correctional Center with one day served, and obtain a chemical dependency evaluation.
Headland is also prohibited from owning or possessing firearms for 360 days.
