You can bet your bottom dollar that if this passes Barnes County and other surrounding counties will become sub counties of Stutsman County and you'll have to go to Stutsman to get any of your county business done. Small schools that don't want to send your kids to larger districts like Jamestown or Valley City? Too bad, they'll go to Jamestown or Valley City to cut costs. Let's not even mention that in Barnes County 24% of the property taxes collected come from sources OUTSIDE of the State of North Dakota thanks mainly to the Wind Towers and Pipelines running through. You can bet your bottom dollar that we'll all be paying that with sales and income taxes and those businesses won't have to pay hardly anything in taxes to pay for the roads they tear up to get to their towers and pipelines. You think your local town or county is going to stand a chance in the legislature to get what your local entity needs? I'm in the private sector and I pay a lot in property tax and, sure, complain about it when I pay it each year, but I also understand there is a reality that we don't get local services for free. If property taxes are too high, we need to go to the local public officials to fix it, not abolish it without a good plan for where the money will come from and how decisions will be made to fund the local needs! It might also do some of the major proponents to take a look around the rest of the country and see that we aren't taxed at as obnoxious a level as it may seem on the serface.
