Iris E. Stark

Iris E. Stark, 60, Centuria, Wisconsin died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at her sisters home in McClusky after a courageous fight with cancer.  Services will be Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, McClusky, ND.

Iris Crowley was born on January 11, 1948 in Superior, Wisconsin to William and Myrtle (Cook) Crowley.  She grew up and lived in Wisconsin.  She had worked 33 years in the nursing home setting and had been a nursing home administrator before becoming ill.  She recently moved to McClusky where she was cared for by her sister, Becky Stein.  Iris enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens.  Her hobbies included indoor plants, knitting, crocheting, fishing, hunting and feeding wild birds.  Iris is survived by two daughters, Samantha (Jamie) MacDonald, Milltown, WI, Nicole Stark, Turtle Lake, WI; three grandchildren; two sisters, Barb Isaacs, Salem, Ohio and Rebecca (Theo) Stein of McClusky, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.  Iris was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and two sisters.  Iris leaves behind many wonderful memories and will be deeply missed.

Herman Wolke, age 95, of Valley City, ND, died Monday, May 12, 2008 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.  Funeral arrangements are pending with the Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home of Valley City.

Sharon Kankelfritz, age 63, Jamestown, ND died at Jamestown Hospital May 10th.  Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home, Valley City, ND is in charge of arrangements.

Doris Opal Odegard

The funeral for Doris Opal Odegard, of Milnor, North Dakota will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Milnor Lutheran Church, with Pastor Curt Larson officiating.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Milnor Lutheran Church.  Burial will be at the Concordia Cemetery, near Milnor.

Doris Opal Hanson, daughter of Sig and Susie (Thomas) Hanson was born on October 8, 1920 at Cogswell, North Dakota, where she grew up and attended school.  She was united in marriage to Raymond Odegard on June 5, 1941 at Webster, South Dakota.  The couple farmed in the Milnor, North Dakota area, before moving into Milnor in 1968.  Raymond died July 1, 1981 Doris continued to live in Milnor before entering the St. Catherine’s Living Center in Wahpeton on March 13, 2006.  She was a member of the Milnor Lutheran Church, Senior Citizens, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Doris died on Sunday, May 11, 2008 at the St. Catherine’s Living Center in Wahpeton, North Dakota.  She was 87 years old.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne (Diana) Odegard, Nixa, MO, and Randy (LaRae) Odegard, Milnor, ND; six daughters, Patricia (Douglas) Martin, and Jane (Jack) Bertram, all of Milnor, ND, Myrna (David) Gibbon, Frazee, MN, Bonnie (Herbert) Beem, Gwinner, ND, Betty (Pat) Anderson, Le Center, MN, and Kay (J.B. West) Odegard, Woodinville, WA; one sister, Millie Voge, Wahpeton, ND; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.  Doris was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, Terry D. Martin, one great-granddaughter, Torrie S. Martin, her parents, three brothers, and six sisters.

Pallbearers for the funeral will be Douglas Martin, Pat Anderson, Jack Bertram, Randy Johnson, Elroy Odegard, and Dennis Odegard.  Heidi Moxness will be organist and Bob Schutt will be soloist for the service.  Arrangements are being handled by Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Milnor.  An on-line guestbook can be signed at www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com .

LESLIE V. BAKER

The funeral for Leslie V. Baker, of Aberdeen, SD formerly of Guelph, ND, will be held on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church, Guelph, ND, with Pastor Ken Adams officiating.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 5 PM at the Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Oakes.  Burial will be at the Ludden Cemetery, near Ludden, North Dakota.

 Leslie Vern Baker, son of Charles Sanford and Gena (Courtney) Baker was born on June 8, 1921 at Guelph, North Dakota.  He graduated from Guelph High School in 1939, and then attended two years of college at Ellendale Normal College.  After his schooling, Leslie taught school at Stirum, North Dakota for one year.  On December 7, 1942, he was drafted to serve his country in the U.S. Army.  Most of his time was spent in the European Theater of operation under the command of General Patton’s 3rd Army.  At the end of the war, Leslie returned to the family farm where his grandfather homesteaded in 1885.  He was united in marriage to Genevieve (Scheffert) Wiitala on July 14, 1967.  The couple made their home for the next thirty years in the Guelph area.  In 1997 due to health reasons of Leslie’s, they retired from farming and moved to the Aberdeen, South Dakota area. 

Leslie passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, South Dakota.  He was 86 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve and a sister, Ethel Gemar, Verona, ND.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold.
