Arvel H. Glinz

Arvel H. Glinz, 89, Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at his home in Jamestown.

Arvel Harley Glinz was born March 13, 1921, on the family farm in Bottineau County near Russell, ND, the son of James and Elizabeth (Zurcher) Glinz.  He was raised on the family farm and attended school in Russell, ND, graduating from Russell High School in 1940.  After graduating, he farmed with his father and brothers until October 23, 1942, when he was inducted into the United States Army Air Force.  On July 19, 1943, he was honorably discharged and returned home to continue farming.  Arvel married Marjorie Goheen in Minot, ND on October 17, 1944.  Arvel continued to farm in the Russell, ND area until 1960, when they purchased a farm in the Jamestown, ND area.  In 1970, he began Glinz Real Estate which he operated for a number of years.  He later sold the real estate business, but continued selling real estate before retiring in April of 2008 from Century 21 Heritage Real Estate.  During his 39 years in real estate, Arvel was instrumental in developing the land south of the Stutsman County Fair Grounds, the Skyline area and the Gussner School District.

Arvel was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the Elks of Jamestown.  He served for many years on the Board of Directors for the North Dakota Wheat Producers.  He enjoyed traveling and was interested in politics.

Arvel was a loving husband, father and grandfather whose great-grandchildren made is life complete.

Arvel is survived by his wife, Marjorie, Jamestown, ND; one son, David (Barbara) Glinz, Jamestown, ND; three daughters: Kathryn (Bryan) Sundsbak, Rapid City, SD; Jane (John) Esper, Clermont, FL; Nancy (Lyle) Williams, Jamestown, ND; one daughter-in-law, Cecelia Glinz, Jamestown, ND, ND; 9 grandchildren: Shaun (Julene) Glinz; Anne (Don) Kainz; Aron Williams; Amy (Jason) Waliser; Alan (Chantelle) Williams, all Jamestown; Sasha (Tony) Minihan, England; Marvel (Joel) Vander Kooi, Thailand; Chad Wiese, Denver, CO; Jamie (Rhianna) Sundsbak, Rochester, MN; 10 great-grandchildren: Dan and Kyra Kainz; Kyler, Connor and Anish Glinz; Lillian Sundsbak; Hunter Klipfel; Austin and Peyton Waliser; Kirsten and Hezekiah Vander Kooi and Ryan and Leo Williams;  a brother, Norman (Twilla) Glinz, Bottineau, ND; Sisters-in-law: Elaine Glinz, Bottineau, ND; Ruth Glinz, Maxbass, ND; Ione Glinz, Westhope, ND; brothers-in-law: Sherman (Marlys) Welstad, Minot, ND; Bill (Marilyn) Goheen, Minot, ND; Sisters-in-law; Sue (Wes) Goheen Buechler, Carrington, ND and Penny (Mike) Goheen Carson, Craig, AK and many wonderful nieces and nephews.         

He was preceded in death by his son, Bruce; grandchildren: Cresta Glinz and Matthew Wiese; his parents, James and Elizabeth Glinz; a sister, Violet Welstad, Upham, ND; brothers: Laurence, Mojave, CA; Wilmar, Maxbass, ND; Willis, Newburg, ND; Lyle, Westhope, ND; mother and father-in-law, Ivan and Lillian Goheen, Minot, ND; brothers-in-law, Jerry Goheen, Carrington, ND; Jim Goheen, The Dells, OR; Kareen Goheen, Bolger, Sebastopol, CA and many dear friends.

Funeral Service – 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Atonement Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND

Visitation – 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND

Interment: - Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

The funeral for Caroline Karn, 100, Jamestown, ND, will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 6, 2010 at St. Jamesto Basilica, Jamestown, ND.  A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 5, 2010 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND.  Visitation will be from noon to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 5, 2010 at LIsko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Monday.  Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, ND.

Hans Brandau
Hans Brandau, 89, Jamestown, ND, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown, ND.          

Hans Brandau was born October 29, 1920 in Lensahn, Germany the son of Michael and Emma Brandau.  He lived in Kellenhusen, Germany.  He served in the German Army during WWII and was taken prisoner in Russia and was transported to the United States.  After the war, he remained in the United States and became a U.S. citizen in 1967.  He lived for many years in Great Falls, MT where he worked as a barber.  He retired in 1964.  Hans enjoyed gardening and played the accordion, harmonica and concertina.         

Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae, Polson, MT; 2 children, Heidi (Robert) Szatkowski, Oak Grove, MO; Tom (Sue) Brandau, Jamestown, ND; a granddaughter, Vanessa (Devon) Spiewak and 2 sisters who live in Germany.

Angeline S. Wilhelm
Angeline S. Wilhelm, 88, Jamestown, ND died Tuesday morning August 31, 2010 at the Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, ND.

Angie was born September 26, 1921 at Chicago, IL, the daughter of George and Bella (Olson) Govig. At an early age she moved with her parents to Woodworth, ND where she attended school and graduated from Woodworth High School. She went to work as an accountant for a construction company in Chicago/Seattle and Anchorage. She returned to Bismarck where she worked at Missouri Valley Motors.

She and Fritz Wilhelm were married at Bismarck, ND. They made their home in Bismarck until 1962 when they moved to Gackle where they owned and operated Wilhelm Chevrolet. In 1980 she moved to Bismarck and worked as an accountant for the Burleigh County Senior Adult Center. She retired in 1989 and moved to Phoenix. In 1991 she moved back to Jamestown and has continued to reside here.

She attended the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, and also enjoyed the game shows, Jeopardy and Millionaire.

She is survived by her son, Tom (Lynn) Wilhelm, Jamestown, ND; 2 grandchildren, Bill Randall, Jamestown, ND; Carley Randall, Bismarck, ND; 1 great grandson Kade, Jamestown, ND; and 1 special niece, Laurie Veitch, Phoenix, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother and 2 sisters.

The private family memorial service will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday September 3, 2010 at the Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND, with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.

The interment will be made in the Highland Home Cemetery at Jamestown, ND.
