city of Jamestown is continuing to advise residents in and immediately adjacent to the following areas to plug their basement floor drains and any basement fixtures until further notice.

Jamestown City Engineer Reed Schwartzkopf says there is an issue with two lift stations.

“There are becoming terribly incumbered with additional water.” said Schwartzkopf. “The biggest problem down there is that we’re not sure what’s going to happen. We don’t really anticipate anything to happen, but if we did have a pump burn out, then we would have a problem.”

The area is from the railroad tracks North along 4th Ave. NW to 16th Street NW then East to 3rd Ave. NE then South to 5th Street NE then East to 5th Avenue NE and South to the railroad tracks.

City crews are working to build overland by-pass pumping lines in the areas of 2nd Ave NE at 15th Street and near the Downtown business center. Scharwartzkopf says there is a theory going around as to what could be affecting the pumps working to the max other than the conditions of the waters being released upstream.

“We think a lot of the people up there are still running their sump pumps into their drains. We may issue a public service announcement, or go door-to-door for inspections. We do have an ordinance that says not to drain the pumps into the sanity sewer system, and if the problem progresses, we may have to start issuing citaitons.”

Portions of the road on 2nd Avenue NE at 15th Street NE and at 3rd Street NE will be closed until further notice to facilitate this by-pass work.
