petition with nearly 600 names to eliminate the city administrator position was submitted to the city auditor’s office yesterday.

Committee member Brian Mindt says the position is unnecessary and city commissioners should do the work to save tax payer money. The committee received 594 and needed 491.

City auditor Avis Richter says the verification of signatures should be completed next week. She says the city commission has two options, either eliminate the position with an ordinance 20 days after the petition was submitted or call for a special citywide election for voters to decide the issue.

Richter says if that option is selected the special election would have to be held by October 11.
