CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The Valley City Post 60 American Legion baseball team finished it’s regular season with a split with Kindred Thursday.

Valley City took the first game 3-1, then dropped the night cap 8-3, landing the team a 9-5 finish in sectional play.

Jaden Keys pitched a short-handed Post 60 past Kindred to start the night.  He struck out 13 in a complete game one-hitter, allowing just an unearned run.

Keys also helped the offensive cause with a 2-3 day, scoring a run.  Wayne Engelhard had three hits in four trips, scoring twice.

It was the second straight game for Valley City without the services of Tyler Stearns and Trent Egan in the lineup.  Stearns is recovering from a dislocated shoulder, while Egan is playing in the Shrine Bowl football game this week.

Valley City got knocked around a bit in the 8-3 loss to end the night.  Derek Kohler took the loss, working four innings, allowing eight runs, five of which were earned, on eight hits.

Engelhard, Tony Van Dyke, Chase Carpenter, and Trevor Justesen each had two hits.  Engelhard and Justesen each scored a run, and Justesen and Carpenter each drove in a run.

Post 60 host the Section 1 tournament next week, with play starting Tuesday.  Pairings will be posted as they are released.
