City, N.D. – More than 100 people protested the suspension of police Chief Dean Ross by city officials during a rally on Friday in front of city hall in Valley City.

Ross told the crowd that city administrator Jon Cameron is controlling the mayor and other city commissioners referring to his oral reprimand, paid administrative leave and the ongoing B-C-I investigation of 4 accounts.

A few minutes after the rally a half-dozen people showed up and picketed for the resignation of Cameron along a public sidewalk in front of his home Friday while he was at work.

Mayor Werkhoven called the public protest in front of Cameron’s home uncalled for and despicable.

Werkhoven says the situation is escalating out of control with accusations of him receiving a DUI conviction posted by someone on a local newspaper blog. He says that’s a complete lie.

Werkhoven says the police chief was put on paid administrative leave indefinitely pending the conclusion of a B-C-I investigation.

City commissioner Matt Pedersen questioned Mayor Werkhoven and city administrator Cameron’s handling of the Ross situation during the rally referring to a July 6 news conference which leveled charges of misappropriation or mismanagement of 4 accounts.
