City, N.D. – Recall petition committee members submitted signatures to recall Valley City Mayor Bob Werkhoven and City Commissioner Ken Evenson right on the deadline date of September 19.

Petition committee member Ronald Olson of Valley City believes the city needs a new direction in leadership. He says the people of Valley City will decide if they approve or disapprove of the current policies and practices that have unfolded over the last few months in the city.

City Auditor Avis Richter says she has until October 19 to validate the names and addresses submitted by the recall group before setting up a special election.

Richter says once the petition signatures are approved, Mayor Werkhoven and Commissioner Evenson have 10 days to resign or their names will be automatically placed on the special recall election ballot. Once approved Richter has to set a recall election 90 to 100 days later for a citywide vote.
