City, N.D. – Mayor Bob Werkhoven had a strong reaction statement to the petition group seeking to recall him and commissioner Ken Evenson. He said, “I haven’t cleaned out my deck yet and I’m not caving into the Ross group and I’m not rolling over.” He said, to use a term coined by the police chief, I or we the commissioners haven’t done anything wrong.”

Werkhoven went on to state that, “we’ve been criticized for having the dikes built too high but in those situations one has to plan on the worst case scenario, we followed the rules of the Salvation Army, others apparently didn’t, we didn’t cite fear into a defenseless woman by marching up and down on the sidewalk in front of her house and we the (commission) believe in the doctrine of the rule of law in that it applies to everybody.

Meanwhile, Werkhoven said, “the issue of the city administrator’s cost to the public is that the salary of the last public works director plus the public works business manager pro-rated today with annual kolas would be about $122,000, Valley City’s current cost with the city administrator’s salary is $75,000 and is responsible for both public works and city issues.”
