CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–While football and volleyball are still in full swing at Valley City State University, the seasons are changing.

Basketball practice has begun for the Vikings, as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletices (NAIA) begins it’s season early, in an attempt to keep it’s national tournament from competing with the NCAA.

The first Viking games will be the home opener October 28th, a womens’ and mens’ doubleheader against the University of Winnipeg Wesman.

The Viking women finished 23-9 in 2010-11, and won the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) tournament title, advancing to the national tournament.  The men were 9-20 a season ago.  Both teams will compete as independents this season after the dissolution of the DAC a year ago.
