City, N.D. – It was 75 years ago on October 19 when KOVC Radio 1490AM signed on the air inside the Rudolf Hotel in Valley City.

Singer Peggy Lee

Many people in the area remember the Big bands playing on the radio back in the 30’s, 40’s & 50’s. Others remember how a girl from Wimbledon Norma Egstrom singing on KOVC made it big later and changed her name to “Peggy Lee.”

Economic time were a bit tough in the 1930’s, that’s putting it mildly. But owner Bob Ingstad Sr. got the station up and running thanks to the support of the community and businesses in the Valley City and surrounding area.

As former announcer Rod Reel said, KOVC and the community have been there through a depression, a World War, good and bad times and peace together for 75 years.

Thanks for listening to KOVC 1490 AM and we hope you continue to do so for years to come. Thanks again and Happy Birthday.
