City, N.D. – The cost of catching sex offender Joseph Megna continue to go up. Law enforcement agencies have added up expenses of ,000 spent on the manhunt to catch the high risk sex offender hiding in a cornfield west of Tower City two weeks ago.

Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin says farmers who brought in combines and trucks to harvest a corn field northwest of Tower City the help capture Megna have now added up to about $21,000.

McClaflin says the claims are being submitted to the insurance company of “Extradition Transport America,” the company that was transporting Megna to a prison in Washington state when he escaped at a rest stop along Interstate 94 on October 4.

Six combines were used to help authorities flush out Megna on October 5 on the Dennis Smith farm northwest of Tower City.

On October 5 Megna was captured after farmers harvested a corn field surrounded with some eighty law enforcement officers. Megna finally gave up to a Valley City police officer in the corn field some 22 hours after he escaped from the prison transport van.
