City, N.D. – We’re nervous and excited to get the new million water treatment plant system on line according to Valley City plant supervisor Wade Hesch.
He says operators are being trained to run the ultra-filtration system this week which is now on line. Hesch says the Nano-filtration system (which controls sulfate levels) should be online by the end of the year or early next year.
At the last city commission meeting, Hesch thanked North Dakota’s congressional delegation, state and city leaders for helping receive nearly $19 million in federal and state funds to make the upgrade possible.
Hesch says Valley City’s commitment is $2 million due to a previous water plant upgrade centered on dual redundancy.
He says the cost to operate and maintain the plant would be the same or maybe a slight increase.
Once the Nano-filtration system is up and running the plant will have the capacity to treat higher sulfate levels. Hesch says sulfate levels readings are normal (283 milligrams per liter) so far in the Sheyenne River.
Contractors have been busy making plant and retention pond upgrades for the several months in Valley City.
