FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A Spirit Lake Nation group that
supports the University of North Dakota’s Fighting Sioux nickname
wants the state attorney general to rule on whether UND violated
open records laws. The group says UND hasn’t adequately complied
with its requests for emails concerning the nickname, which is
likely to be retired because the NCAA says it’s offensive.
     
LAKOTA, N.D. (AP) – Five members of a Nelson County farm family
who were involved in a months-long standoff with authorities are in
custody. Officials in northeast North Dakota arrested Rodney
Brossart and his son Jacob without incident yesterday as the two
finished harvesting a field. Three other adult children surrendered
at the farm after several hours of negotiations. The five had
arrest warrants for not appearing in court.
     
DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) – Devils Lake area officials plan to
lobby for state money to pay for Ramsey County road repairs during
this week’s special legislative session. The County Commission has
committed to completing about $7.6 million worth of flood-related
road-raise projects.
     
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The next federal farm legislation will be the
focus of a two-day conference in Fargo that begins today.
Organizers say they’ll discuss key issues such as federal deficit
reduction that will influence the next farm bill.
