North Dakota Farmers Union President Robert Carlson is stepping down after 15 years on the job.

North Dakota Farmers Union will elect a new president for the first time in 15 years on Saturday during the Union’s annual state convention in Bismarck.

Current president Robert Carlson is stepping down from his post after nearly 15 years on the job.  Nominations for president will be made Friday night at the convention, and the new president will be elected Saturday afternoon.

There is an Appreciation Reception for Carlson at 4:30 p.m. Saturday during the convention at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel.

Other highlights of the 85th annual convention include two keynote speakers and a discussion on the Farm Bill. The farm bill discussion takes place at 2 p.m. Friday.

Both keynote speakers are economists. Dan White is an economist at Moody’s Analytics and will speak Friday at 12:45 p.m. Joe Mahon is from the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and will speak Saturday at 1 p.m.
