of Finley head to the polls today to decide whether to double the
community’s 1 percent sales tax. If the measure’s approved, the
money will pay for repairs to street lights and a water tower.     
  
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Vehicle accidents are on the rise in
Williston, the city that’s the hub of North Dakota’s oil activity.
Police data shows there were nearly twice as many accidents
reported last month compared to October 2010.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – North Dakota Republican Senator John
Hoeven  says congressional lawmakers need to put partisan
politics aside in order to reduce the debt and put the nation “on
a sound financial footing.” Members Congress from the Dakotas say
the failure of a special deficit-reduction supercommittee
highlights the need for Democrats and Republicans to work together
on the nation’s financial challenges.
     
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota State football team moved up
a spot to Number 4 position in the season’s final Football
Championship Subdivision coaches’ poll. NDSU downed Western
Illinois 37-to-21 on Saturday and secured a first-round bye in the
FCS playoffs.
