CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–A solid Cougar womens’ team and a game mired by 54 fouls combined to hand the Vikings a pair of losses this weekend.

The University of Sioux Falls knocked off Valley City State 68-48 in womens play, then topped the Viking men 67-62 to sweep a doubleheader Saturday at the W. E. Osmon Fieldhouse.

The Viking women fought with the Cougars, who were 5-1 against all NCAA Division II competition coming into the weekend.  The Cougars used a 12-2 run in the first five minutes of the second half to take a 43-27 lead, the first real separation of the game.

The lead would grow to 20, and the Vikings rallied to slice the lead to 12, but could get no closer.  Alyssa Hummel (Jr., West Fargo, ND) paced the Vikings with 11 points, and Sadiqah Jihad (Fr., Minneapolis, MN) added 10.

The mens’ contest never saw any play in rhythm, as whistle after whistle, 54 fouls in total, bogged the game down, with Cougar post play the difference.

Skyler Bloch (Sr., Lesterville, SD) scored 17 of his game-high 21 in the second half to lead the Cougars.  Sekani Milligan (Jr., Fort Lauderdale, FL) knocked down 16 to lead the Vikings.

The Viking women fell to 5-8 overall, while the men dropped to 6-4.  The Vikings entertain the University of Minnesota-Morris Wednesday night in a doubleheader.
