N.D.- It was a tough realization for the Jamestown High School basketball teams on Tuesday night.

After two great seasons last year, with the girls reaching the state tournament, and the boys falling short of the tournament in double overtime, this year’s season just didn’t start out on the right foot. The Fargo Davies Eagles came in to Jerry Meyer Arena, and exacted a little payback for what took place on February 1 in Fargo by defeating both the girls and boys teams to start the 2011-12 seasons.

Girls: Davies 55 Jamestown 52

The Blue Jay girls seemed to have a good beat on the contest for the most part, but foul trouble, and the inability to score during the final 7 minute stretch in regulation sealed the fate of Jamestown; even though they forced a steal, and had a respectible look at a three pointer to tie.

“We had too many turnovers, and we didn’t make enough shots with our opportunities.” said Jamestown head coach Andy Skunberg. “It’s first game jitters, we’ve got four or five girls that haven’t played much varsity (basketball) at all, it’s a whole different level coming in for them speed-wise and strength-wise, and with Davies’ size and strength, it makes things tough.”

Julie Fuchs lead the way for Jamestown with 15 points, while Paige Peterson, in her starting varsity debut finished with 10 points.

Boys: Davies 62 Jamestown 43

For the boys of Jamestown High, it was simply a rough night, and was summed up quite simply by Jamestown head coach Kelly Kessler.

“From the opening tip, Davies was the aggressors tonight.” said Kessler. “They set the tone of the game, and we took a step back and allowed them to do that. We didn’t defend the way we wanted to, we didn’t attack the basket the way we wanted to, and they pretty much dominated us tonight.”

Jordan Thoreson was the only player for the Jays to reach the double digit point level, with 11. Dylan Anderson had 9, and Danny Fisher had 8 points.

Both boys and girls teams (0-1) will now go up against their first Western Dakota Association opponent of the young season; the Mandan Braves on Friday night at Jerry Meyer Arena. Tip for the girls game is set for around 5:45, with the boys to follow.
