W. Orr, 88, of Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Floyd W. Orr was born September 11, 1923, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Marion Douglas and Helen Ethel (Rigdon) Orr. The family moved to Jamestown, ND in 1928 where Floyd attended rural schools. He worked for area farmers and joined the Civil Conservation Corps, working at the Peace Gardens from 1939 to 1940. Floyd also farmed with his father. He married Ellen Nicholls in Aberdeen, SD on August 5, 1944. They bought the ”Corwin Farm” where they farmed for 50 years. Floyd worked for Lytle-Greene Earthmoving, constructing Oahe Dam at Ft. Pierre, SD and the Jamestown Dam. He did custom combining and worked for Flament-Ulman for 10 years. They retired in Ypsilanti, ND and moved to Jamestown in 2007.

Floyd was a member of Ypsilanti Lutheran Church until it closed and joined Montpelier Lutheran Church. He served on the church board, school board, and served as Stutsman County Farm Bureau President for 5 years. He was a life member of the Elks and won the Stutsman County Soil Conservation award in 1981.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Ellen, Jamestown; children, David (Karon) Orr, Jamestown, Steven Orr, Palm Desert, CA, Nancy (George) Couvillon, Marksville, LA, Lindsay (Julie) Orr, Ypsilanti, ND, and Christine Krenz, Blue Springs, MO; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brothers, Clifford (Valeria) Orr, Ypsilanti, Paul (Delores) Orr, East Grand Forks, MN; sisters, Marjorie Davis, Ypsilanti, Fern Allrich, Jamestown, Vonnie (Darrell) Entzminger, Jamestown; sisters-in-law, Viona Orr, Jamestown and Doris Orr, Jamestown; and step-brother, Ed (Carol Gene) Matthiesen, Ypsilanti, Marvin Matthiesen, Washington, and Helen Mossington, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Maurice, Meredith “Bud”, Robert, Francis, and infant Harold; sister, Virginia; and brothers-in-law, Oscar Kreil, Charles Davis, and Otto Allrich.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: James Valley Cemetery, Ypsilanti, ND.
