Zaun, age 65, of Valley City, ND, died Friday, January 6, 2012 at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 11th at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dan Forsberg officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Interment will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND in the spring.            

Norman John Zaun, the son of Paul and Adeline (Magnuson) Zaun, was born January 7, 1946 in Fargo, ND.  He grew up in California and in 1964 graduated from Grant High School in Van Nyes, CA.  After his graduation, he worked for a time in California.  On October 25, 1966 Norman enlisted in the US Army and served his country in Viet Nam.  He was honorably discharged on October 17, 1968.  After his discharge, he worked for Suburban Propane in California for many years and also did carpentry work.  Norman loved to prospect for gold and panned in many areas in California.  Norman later moved back to Valley City, ND where he worked for Mr. Spindle.  Norman liked to play cards, fishing, gardening, yard work, visiting with family and spending time with his significant other, Becky Humble.            

Norman is survived by his significant other, Becky Humble, Valley City, ND; his mother, Adeline Zaun, Valley City, ND; his children, Jeffrey Plecity, Marion, IA, John Zaun, Valley City, ND, Jeremy (Michelle) Zaun, Cooperstown, ND and Ann (Jeff) Thomsen, Fargo, ND; one sister, Darlene (Roz) Zaun, North Hollywood, CA; one brother, Leo Zaun, Valley City, ND; his grandchildren; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; numerous cousins.          

Norman was preceded in death by father, one brother, Curtis, one sister, Pauline and a niece Carolyn.
