Harris age 63 of Valley City died Saturday January 7, 2012 at her residence in Valley City. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 PM Friday January 13, 2012 at Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City with Rev. Dan Bader officiating. Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM Thursday at Epworth United Methodist Church with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM with Rev. Steve Johnson presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery later in the spring.
Rita (Wolf) Harris was born Jan 17, 1948 in Carrington ND, daughter of John A.& Delores M. (Suydam) Wolf. She attended school in Bordulac, Manfred and Fessenden ND . After graduating from Fesseden High School in 1966, she attended Town & Country Beauty College of Jamestown. She received advanced training in wiggery in Minneapolis MN. In May of 1967, she accepted a position with Midwestern Wigs of Jamestown. She modeled wigs in both Jamestown and Minneapolis. On January 25, 1969 she married G. Ronald Harris. Rev. Don Nelson (Ron’s brother-in-law) officiated at the ceremony. They lived a short time in Minnesota before moving to India for several years where they had their children Lynn and Kevin. They moved back to Valley City in 1976. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church where she held several state offices for the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Valley City Lion’s Club. She enjoyed baking, cooking, crocheting and gardening, reading, rolling skating and spending time with her grandchildren. She has worked the last 18 years at the Sheyenne Care Center as a CNA and in Activities.
She is survived by husband, Ron; daughter, Lynn Gartner of Bismarck; son, Kevin (Stephanie) of Watford City, 4 brothers, twin, Richard (Delilia) of Rusco; John G. (Bobbie) of East Stroudsburg PA, Paul (Colette) of Kensal; Kenneth (Kathy) of Las Vegas NV; 2 sisters, Mary (LeRoy Eberhart) of Eau Claire WS; Bonnie (Wes Holm) of Metamora IL; 1 sister-in-law Joyce Nelson of Atlanta GA; 5 grandchildren with 1 due in February; 1 great grandchild and many nieces, nephew, aunts & uncles.
Rita was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; mother and father-in-law, Bertha & George Harris; 1 infant brother, James and 1 infant sister, Marie.
