CITY (NewsDakota.com)- Both Jamestown College teams were able to overcome adversity and win their respective DAC Mid-season Tournament.

The first championship match put the JC women up against the Valley City State Vikings and came away victorious 61-60 in overtime.

After 40 minutes of a roller coaster ride, the game was knotted up and the spectators were given five free minutes of basketball when VCSU’s Katelyn Ralston banked in a shot with :0.8 remaining to force overtime.

Bridget Schuneman and the Jimmies wouldn’t go away. With the clock winding down and the Vikings clinging to a one-point lead, Schuneman muscled up the final points of the contest amidst a fierce double-team. The Jimmies took a 61-60 lead with just over 10 seconds remaining.

Ralston had another look from nearly the same spot she forced overtime as the clock expired, but it hit the bottom of the rim preserving the Jimmies six-game winning streak. Shuneman finished with 17.

Carly Jensen was second on the team with 13, despite fouling out in the second-half. She scored the final six points of the first-half to give the Jimmies a 28-22 lead into the locker room.

Jamestown improves to 20-3 on the season and will return to action Saturday at Mayville St.

Speaking of the Comets, that was the opponents for the men in their championship tilt. Despite a poor offense start, the Jimmies continued to find a way to win and took down Mayville St. 66-53.

The Comets built an 11-point lead midway through the second-half, but once Jamestown found their stride it was all but over. The Jimmies exploded on a 29-7 run to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Another balanced scoring night for Coach Matt Murken’s crew, five players in double-figures. Travis Burley (12), Byron Jones (12, including 8-8 from the line), Drew Priener (12), Davon Thomas (11), and Jared Sutherland (11).

The men will play the Comets again in six days at Mayville. They improve to 19-4 on the season and have won 18 of their last 19.
