funeral mass for Julius Meier of Oakes, ND, will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2:30 pm at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Oakes, ND, with burial to follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery, Verona, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

Julius was born on August 14, 1930 at Zeeland, North Dakota to Regina and Joachim (Jangula) Meier. Julius spent his younger years growing up on the family farm near Zeeland. He was united in marriage to Bertha Malard January 27, 1957 in Bismarck, North Dakota. They made their home in Pierre, South Dakota until 1959, when they moved to Zeeland, North Dakota, and they farmed the Meier family farm. In 1974, they moved to Oakes, where Julius was employed with Oakes Farms and Prime Movers until his retirement. The couple moved to Verona, North Dakota in 2000 and lived there a short time before returning to Oakes. Bertha passed away November 22, 2002. Julius became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in May of 2009.

After his retirement, Julius spent his days playing the accordian, listening to Polka music, fishing, and driving around. In his spare time, you could find him out cutting and splitting wood for his family, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Julius passed away January 25, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society, Oakes, North Dakota. He was 81 years old.

He is survived by five sons, Andy (Penny) Meier, Jamestown, ND, Calvin Meier, Oakes, ND, Clarence (Millie) Meier, Park Rapids, MN, Leroy Meier, Oakes, ND, and David Meier, Moorcroft, WY; a daughter, Kathy (Cory) Anderson, Oakes, ND; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Julius is also survived by four sisters, Julia Lipp, Helen (James) Germain, Ann Vogel, and Janice Shaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Bertha, son Eugene, and three sisters.
