FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The union representing locked-out
American Crystal Sugar employees will lobby against the sugar
program in Congress. The decision breaks a tradition of fighting
for the program alongside farmers and the company. The U.S. sugar
program’s key provision limits sugar imports and props up domestic
sugar prices.     
    
MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – Union workers are ending their informational
pickets at North Dakota’s lone oil refinery. The United
Steelworkers union and Shell Oil say they’ve reached a tentative
deal on a new three-year contract. The agreement will be used as a
model for negotiations between union workers and Tesoro, which owns
the Mandan refinery.
     
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Work at North Dakota State University’s Upper
Great Plains Transportation Institute is getting a boost through
two federal grants. The school will get about $2 million from the
awards.
     
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Supporters of the University of North
Dakota’s Fighting Sioux nickname say they’ll have a final petition
push today. The group plans to set up at the state capitol and in a
Fargo shopping mall to collect signatures.
