CITY (NewsDakota.com) A tight supply of seed corn is a growing concern for farmers as spring planting approaches.

A seed company, Syngenta, says its production fell 15 to 25 percent short of expectations last summer limiting the company’s ability to supply farmers preparing for spring planting.

Dakota Plains Cooperative GM Ken Astrup confirms that certain corn varieties are in short supply now but several area producers placed orders early.

Astrup says farmers should call their local agronomist soon to see if their corn seed variety is available. The current price for corn is over $6 a bushel.
