CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The first round of the District 2 boys basketball tournament is in the books.

Top seeds Central Cass, Maple Valley, and Kindred advanced to the semi-finals, with Fargo Oak Grove, seeded fifth, upsetting fourth-seeded Enderlin for a berth in a regional qualifier Saturday.

Central Cass ran by Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page 87-42 in the opening game at the Fargo Civic Friday. The top-seeded Squirrels, ranked third in North Dakota, saw 11 players score, rolling up 29 third-quarter points to take a 19-point halftime lead to even bigger numbers.

Freshman Adam Breske scored 13, leading the Squirrels. Matt Zimmerman and Ellery Bresnahan each had 12, and Ben Sundquist added 11. Austen Archer scored 11 to lead the Spartans.

The Oak Grove Grovers used devastating pressure defense to blow out Enderlin 73-43 in the opening rounds lone upset. The win for the Grovers avenged a two-point loss at Enderlin in the regular season.

Twelve Grovers scored, with Tyler Christianson leading the way with 18 points. Brad Conant scored 14 for Oak Grove. Thomas Lindgren led the Eagles with 12, and Dan Lindgren tossed in 11 Enderlin.

Maple Valley rolled up Northern Cass 73-38 to start the night session. The second-seeded Raiders, ranked ninth in the state, saw a highlight when Jordan Haseleu scored his 1000th career point.

Kindred wrapped up the night with a 63-51 win over Richland.

Saturday will see Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page meet Enderlin at 3:00 p.m., with Northern Cass facing Richland to follow, both games loser-out matchups.

The semi-finals pit Central Cass against Oak Grove and Maple Valley against Kindred. The winners qualify for the Region I tournament and advance to the tournament’s title game. The losers meet the winners of the consolation games on Monday in regional qualifiers.

All four Saturday games will be heard on Q101 KQDJ-FM.
