N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Board of Higher Education
will meet with the state’s attorney general on Monday to discuss a
possible lawsuit over the University of North Dakota’s Fighting
Sioux nickname. The board’s president says the group needs to
decide whether it would be better to file a lawsuit, or fight a
proposed nickname referendum.
     
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – A federal agency says it can’t intervene
in a case where a 39-year-old man died during a trench collapse.
That’s because Casimiro Medina wasn’t working for the company that
built the trench. He was killed when he jumped in the trench to try
to save a second man.
     
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Animal advocates say they want voters to
toughen North Dakota’s penalties against animal cruelty. Under
current law, the most severe penalty for animal abuse is a year in
jail and a $2,000 fine. But the group wants a ballot measure that
would make animal cruelty a potential felony that includes a
maximum five-year prison sentence.
     
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – What’s billed as the largest student-run
agricultural event in North Dakota kicks off today in Fargo. The
86th Little International Livestock Contest runs through tomorrow.
