Ruff, 98, of LaMoure, ND, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society, Oakes, ND.

Helen Augusta Krapu Ruff was born in Porter Township, Dickey County, on July 23, 1913 to Matt and Anna (Wihela) Krapu. Helen attended schools in the Fullerton and Ellendale area. She took a short course at the Ellendale Normal College and taught rural school in Dean and Porter Townships for several years.

Helen married Otto Ruff on January 17th, 1942. Helen and Otto lived and farmed in Dean Township until 1964. Helen and Otto raised three children: June (Ken) Lider of Wheatland, WY; Linda (Dallas) Biers of Rapid City, SD; and Jon (Raeann) Ruff of LaMoure, ND.

Otto passed away July 6th, 1964, at which time Helen moved to LaMoure with her children. Helen held various jobs in LaMoure, but was probably best known for her years spent at Elmer’s Bakery.

Helen enjoyed writing poetry and letters and always knew more about current events than did her children! Her greatest joys were her children and her grandchildren. She loved to know what everyone was up to and spent many hours worrying about her children, her grandchildren, and the weather…regardless of whether we needed it or not!

Grateful for having shared in her life are her children: June (Ken) and their children, Mary Johnson and daughter Heather Carlson and Simon; Janet (Greg) Loftus and children Alexandria and Jake; and Julie Johnson; Linda (Dallas) and their children, Jason (Deb) Larson and daughters Brooke, Bridgette and Brielle; Ryan Larson (Gara) and sons Noah and Lucca; and Brandon (Mary) Larson; Jodi Biers and Kelly Biers; and Jon (Raeann) and their children, Allison (Paul) Koecher and Megan (Shawn) Buchmeier. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, DeLoris Krapu, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Otto, three sisters, four brothers, and a grandson Greg Johnson.

Helen’s funeral will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, LaMoure, ND, with burial to follow at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, LaMoure. An on-line guestbook may be signed at www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com
