funeral service for Orvin “Bill” Olson, 88, Valley City, North Dakota formerly of Hastings, North Dakota, will be 11 am Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Spring Creek Lutheran Church, Hastings, with Pastor Marsha Hegna officiating.  Burial will be with military honors in the Spring Creek Cemetery, Hastings.         

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Oliver- Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City and one hour before the service at the Church.          

Orvin A. “Bill” Olson was born January 15, 1924 in Hastings, the son of Oliver and Claudine (Bergan) Olson.  He attended rural school and also the Hastings School.  Bill served in the 21st Infantry of the United States Army from March 22, 1946 until being discharged on September 8, 1947 and returned to the Hastings where he farmed with his brothers, Orris and Alton.  He retired in 1986 and in 1989, he moved to Valley City.          

Bill was an avid sports fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Twins and Timberwolves.  He also enjoyed VCSU athletics and hearing his nieces and nephews play sports.          

He was a member of Spring Creek Lutheran Church, VFW Leslie Newman Post 9315 and the American Legion Post 60.  He was also a member of the Barnes County Wildlife.        

Bill is survived by his sister, Verna Olstad, Valley City; three nephews, Gale (Betty) Olstad, Valley City; Dennis (Shirley) Olstad and Gary (Kay) Olstad, all of Pelican Rapids; and several great nieces and nephews.
