March 4, 2012 Lowell Alvin Monson (86), Litchville, ND left his earthly journey for his heavenly home.  He was born July 24, 1925 on a farm in Meadow Lake Township to parents Albert and Lillian (Lee) Monson. He was baptized in the Lutheran church at Ypsilanti and confirmed at St. Thomas Church, rural Litchville. 

Lowell attended Plano #66 grade school and Clark City High School.  He joined his father in working the Monson grain and cattle business at a young age and eventually taking over the full responsibility of that trucking business. In 1946 he was called to serve his country in the military.  He did basic at Camp Polk, LA. and then was sent to Japan where he served as a medic.  Lowell was discharged from service in late 1947.

Lowell married Willa Mae “Billie” Middlestead at Marion Lutheran Church on June 12, 1949.  To this union 6 children were born.  He lived in the Litchville area all of his life.      In his retirement Lowell managed the Litchville Bowling Alley.  He volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels. In Lowell’s last few weeks he resided at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Billie; two daughters: Corrine Erwin, Herndon, VA and Mavis Monson, Valley City, ND;  two sons: Marlowe Monson, Litchville and Thomas H. Monson, Valley City; six grandchildren: Seth Erwin, Resgon, VA; Brandon Krenz, Flower Mound, TX; Zelma Renfro, Lewis Renfro, and Jacob Renfro, Casa Grande, AZ; Sausha Renfro, Valley City: and eight great- grandchildren; five brothers: Wayne and Rodney (Barbara), Jamestown, ND; Edward (Jean), Lakefield, MN., Dale (Virginia), Mandan, ND and Lorne, Fargo, ND;  five sisters: Marilyn (Robert) Burkhardt, Neldae Frank, Arlyce (Leonard) Chadwick, Jamestown: Lois Hofmann, Fargo: Julaine (Mark)Monson/Cumming, Missoula, MT: sisters-in-law, Donna (Noelyn) Monson, Litchville, and Eileen Afdahl, AZ, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lowell was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Krenz and a son, Robin Allen Monson,  his parents, two brothers: Noelyn and Allen; a sister-in-law Donna (Wayne) Monson and two brothers-in-law, George Frank and Richard Hofmann.

A funeral service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Litchville on Monday March 12 at 11 AM with visitation at 10 AM. His burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery with full military rites.
