Lee Whetham, 62, Jamestown, ND lost his battle with cancer on March 6, 2012 at his home surrounded by family.

Dan was born July 1, 1949 the son of Bernie E and Ruth E. (Brockway) Whetham. He was raised in rural Sheyenne, ND until 1962. He attended a rural country school through the 5th grade. In 1962 he moved to rural New Rockford and finished his high school education at New Rockford Central. He spent 1 year in Englewood Co. attending Western Technical College. He returned to New Rockford, working at the Chevrolet car dealership and helping his dad on the farm.

He and Anna Marie Krebs were married March 20, 1971 at Fessenden, ND. He entered the US Army June 2, 1970 at Fort Polk, Louisiana, served his country and was honorably discharged April 19, 1972 with the rank of E-4. He returned to New Rockford to help his dad on the farm. In 1973 he got his Commercial Driver’s License while working for Weber Construction. After freeze up, he went to work for Fessenden Co-Op Assn.

In 1974 they moved to the Minot area where he worked for different trucking outfits and also owning his own truck for 8 years. In 1991 he went to work for Weist Truck Lines where he started trucking oversize loads which he did to the present time. He also worked for RTS Shearing starting in 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, Jamestown, ND, 4 children Bill (Ronni) Whetham, Steward (Margaret) Whetham, all of Berthold, ND; Chad (Debra) Whetham, Jamestown, ND; LeAnna (John) Brown, Ypsilanti, ND; 11 grandchildren, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, Martin (Debra) Whetham, Pittsburg, CA; Edwin (Donna) Whetham, Wilton, ND; Allen (Bernadette) Whetham, Grand Forks, ND; Betty Flemming, Minot, ND and Jane Haakenson, Williston, ND, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a whole lot of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Charles and 1 sister Mary, and 1 nephew, Rodney Haakenson.

Memorial Service will be at 1:00 PM Saturday March 17, 2012 in the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM Friday March 16, 2012 at the Funeral Home.
