Saewert, 83, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Milnor, ND, died March 9, 2012, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, surrounded by his loving wife and family after a long battle with cancer.

Ernie was born May 23, 1928 to Albert and Lydia (Bergeman) Saewert. He was raised on a farm near Stirum, North Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Stirum, where he also taught Sunday school for nine years. Ernie attended school in Stirum.

He married Elsie Gronbeck of Oakes, North Dakota in 1948. Ernie farmed for 18 years while working winters with his father Albert to learn the electrical trade. In 1966 he quit farming and they moved to Forman, North Dakota, when he bought his father’s electrical business. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and was on the church council for one year. He also served on the Forman City Council for two terms and was a member of the Lions club in Forman.

In 1988, he moved his business to Milnor, North Dakota. After 37 years as an electrical contractor, he retired because of poor health. He was a member of Milnor Lutheran Church.

Ernie enjoyed their lake home on Silver Lake, MN; fishing water skiing, snowmobiling, playing bridge and pinochle, and visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Elsie; a daughter, Lois (James) Wall, West Fargo, ND; two sons, Jim (Jeannie) Saewert, West Fargo, ND, and Steve (Pat) Saewert, Omaha, NE; one brother, Orville (Marcie) Saewert, Tucson, AZ; two sisters, Verna Nathe, Tucson, AZ and Ruth Buehler, Maddock, ND; and a sister-in-law, Norma Duff, Longmont, CO. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Michelle (Joshua) Worley, Corey (Tracy) Saewert, Erick (Jen) Saewert, Stephanie (Aaron) Scheppers, Jordan (Stacy) Saewert, and Justin (Jenna) Saewert; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Milnor Lutheran Church, Milnor, ND.
